The Art of

Charles Eaton

Artist Statement:

Growing up, my artistic training consisted of construction paper and paste. But my father was a doodler with small sketches popping up in the most unlikely places.

My fascination was with nature and the outdoors. I spent several of my summers working for the U.S. Forest Service, but then "reality" and "responsibility" came into my life. Those are two terrible words.

At age 50, I bought a sketch book and some pencils while on vacation. Somehow I had been blessed with a little ability and a willingness to keep working on improving my skills.

My wife, who has always been an artist, was very encouraging. We began taking classes together with Ken Marsden, a very accomplished watercolorist. Ken kept saying, "be bold." I'm not sure I've figured that out yet, but it is a great enjoyment to keep trying and learning.
